Called the "Grand Canyon of the East," Linville Gorge is one of the most rugged wilderness areas in the Appalachians. Three days of exposed ridge hikes, dramatic gorge overlooks, and alpine ladders on Grandfather Mountain.

Day-by-Day Plan
Day 1
Gorge Views — Hawksbill, Erwin's View, or Pinch-In Trail
- Hawksbill Mountain — 2.3 mi RT, rocky summit with dramatic gorge panorama
- Erwin's View Trail — dramatic overlooks, less sustained climbing
- Pinch-In Trail — steep, rocky descent into the gorge with raw wilderness exposure
Day 2
Grandfather Mountain + Linville Falls
- Grandfather Mountain — ladders, cables, and wind-swept alpine ridge (full day)
- Daffodil Flats — seasonal meadow with pastoral open views (easier option)
- Linville Falls Trail — multiple falls viewpoints, 1.6 mi easy loop
Day 3
Shortoff Mountain or Table Rock
- Shortoff Mountain — cliffside trail above Lake James, 5.2 mi RT
- Table Rock Mountain — exposed summit scramble, quintessential Linville Gorge
